Bretterbude Büsum

Localización: Büsum - Germany

Tipo de proyecto: Trabajo colaborativo Hospitality

Büsum is one of the most popular towns on the German North Sea coast. With its long, impressive beach promenade, iconic lighthouse, thriving crab fishing industry, and proximity to the Wadden Sea, the family-friendly area attracts some 1.9 million overnight stays every year.

This booming town has become a trendy location for short- and long-term holidays. However, one hotel in particular stands out – the newly opened Bretterbude Büsum. It belongs to the Hamburg-based Heimathafen Hotels group, which operates eight lifestyle hotels on the North Sea and Baltic coasts. Most are situated less than two hours' drive from Hamburg, and a ninth location is slated to open soon.

The group’s first installation was the Beach Motel in Sankt Peter-Ording, which opened in March 2013. Its rapid success inspired hotelier Jens U. Sroka to expand, recreating the concept in Heiligenhafen along the Baltic Sea. Bretterbude was then built flanking the Beach Motel, with a younger, more daring architectural concept based on Heligoland’s lobster shacks. As a result, the new development looks like it has been divided into small, individual houses. Bretterbude Büsum is planned as part of a complex comprising beach apartments, The Cove restaurant, and the hotel itself.

The intuitive handling of Salto’s management software and the seamless system architecture consisting of virtual, wireless, and wired networking convinced us 100% – first in theory and later in practice. Now, guests who experience this end-to-end digital journey tailored to their comfort will reward the added value with greater loyalty.

Martin VockerothIT Manager at Heimathafen Hotels
  • From the start, the hotel's access control system had to be planned and implemented in a way that made it both future-oriented and scalable. Additionally, it was important to the operator that guests could unlock their hotel room doors with their own smartphones.

In digitalised hotel services of this type, guests typically check in using their mobile devices. This reduces long queues and wait times at reception while simultaneously reducing workloads for hotel staff. To achieve that, the solution had to function seamlessly on any mobile device without the need to download an app.

When the first Beach Motel in Sankt Peter-Ording was renovated three years ago, the decision was made to replace the existing locking system with a more modern solution. That led to an extensive evaluation of the market for access control solutions designed specifically for hotels – and, in turn, to Salto.

  • Our solution was a rousing success at the Beach Motel. Ultimately, this gave the operator the confidence to collaborate extensively with Salto to equip Bretterbude Büsum with an all-new smart access system.

All the doors within the entire complex were fitted with state-of-the-art electronic access control. This included not just guest-accessible areas such as hotel rooms, suites, and apartments, but also the back-office and service areas in various buildings.

A key element of our solution is that room and apartment doors are connected wirelessly via Salto BLUEnet Wireless technology. This enables real-time control and monitoring of every access point. Meanwhile, back-office doors leverage the Salto Virtual Network (SVN) to create a largely wire-free system that has reduced installation time and effort. By integrating our web app and property management system (PMS), system administrators can now flexibly set up access rights for guests, employees, and service providers throughout the complex.

Salto’s smart access control solution offers many administrative benefits, thanks to its automation features and quick access to booking-related guest data in the PMS. This allows reception staff to focus on the guests, speeding up check-in processes while improving the customer experience.

Alongside these operational advantages, there are also several maintenance benefits. All system information, such as battery levels and protocol data, is recorded in real-time and can be viewed centrally. Furthermore, administrators can install door hardware updates through the wireless network, eliminating the need for physical intervention.

Ventajas fundamentales

  • Wireless network architecture, slashing installation time and effort, and providing wire-free access control features in real-time.
  • Integrated hotel PMS and web app ensures easy set-up of flexible access rights throughout the complex.
  • Digital check-in, with operators supporting mobile access via guests’ smartphones for smart, contactless entry.
  • Faster, more efficient check-in, reducing wait times at the front desk and elevating the overall guest experience.
  • Optimising workflows cuts down staff workloads and enhances service delivery.
  • Low maintenance requirements, ensuring more efficient operations and higher ROI.

The inner values of the building, such as the access control system, are anything but vintage. They have been planned and designed with the future in mind and are ready for expansion. This is precisely why we opted for Salto, as it was the only way to realise our requirements in the best possible way.
