Vestlia Resort is part of Geilogruppen AS, which owns and manages three resorts in Geilo, including Highland Lodge Fjellandsby and Bardøla Fjelltun, offering over 1,500 beds across hotel rooms, apartments, and cabins.

Vestlia Resort: Modern Hospitality access control solution

When we chose Salto, it was essential that the solution was international, well-established, and backed by a strong development team to ensure we can continuously stay at the forefront of innovation and adapt to modern solutions as they emerge. The pace of development is rapid, and the ability to adapt to new integrations and market demands is critical. 

I recommend Salto’s solutions for both large, complex resorts and smaller hotels because the system is flexible, scalable, and adapts to every need. We manage everything centrally – from commercial properties and staff housing to single room rentals, cabins, and apartments. This makes operations extremely efficient, and it’s something we truly value.

  • Vestlia Resort enjoys high demand year-round visitors, with no true off-season. To ensure staff can focus fully on guests and service, reliable systems are essential. However, their outdated mechanical lock system posed significant challenges and frustrations. Technical issues and malfunctions led to unnecessary time consumption and uncertainty regarding guest access to rooms. Operations were further burdened by frequent manual interventions; in some cases, doors had to be forced open, causing inconvenience and disruption for guests. This impacted daily BOH operations, guest experience, and the overall safety of both staff and management.

    Geilogruppen aimed to automate Vestlia Resort to overcome the limitations of its mechanical locking system, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the guest experience by delivering the seamless, digitized access today’s travelers expect.

  • Geilogruppen agreed to pilot Salto electronic access at Vestlia Resort, based on a recommendation from a local Salto partner. Following a successful implementation – during which the system was installed as part of the modernization of a 30-room wing at Vestlia Resort – the group chose to expand the solution across the entire hotel and its other properties. The retrofit installation was carried out with minimal disruption, allowing the year-round resort to remain fully operational, as Salto’s wireless electronic locks required no complex or time-consuming wiring. 
     
    Today, the deployment includes the Salto Space hotel management software and access control platform, XS4 Original+ electronic locks, Design XS Wall Readers, Neo cylinders for indoor and outdoor use, the Salto JustIN Mobile app, and Gantner NET.Lock electronic locker locks. 

    The electronic locking solution has expanded to over 1,000 access points from guest rooms, wine cabinets, and spa areas to lockers and staff zones. With role-based access control and automatic event logging, Vestlia Resort has achieved enhanced security, full oversight, and confidence that everything operates as it should. Guests enjoy seamless access with key cards tailored to their stay, while management and staff use JustIN Mobile on smartphones as their sole entry method for all access points. Maintenance is intuitive, allowing the hotel’s own team to handle most tasks.  

    The result is a marked improvement in daily operations and guest satisfaction, delivering significant time savings (especially during holidays), enhanced security, and greater peace of mind in daily property operations.

One of the major advantages of Salto is that locks can be installed without damaging the doors, and the system is so straightforward that our own staff can handle the maintenance. I have yet to encounter a lock system that can compete with Salto – and we are now planning to expand with 180 new locker locks for ski storage. When it comes to access control, Salto is the only choice.
