Virgin Money
Lokalizacja: Wielka Brytania
Rodzaj projektu: Retail - Banking and Insurance
Virgin Money is a major banking institution in the United Kingdom (UK) with almost 100 branches nationwide. As part of a wider transformation project, the bank sought to upgrade its security infrastructure across its entire network.
This project began in 2001, when Virgin Money was founded. In 2018, it was then acquired by the Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banking Group (CYBG), an entity comprising two of the country’s oldest and most well-established financial institutions. Since then, Virgin Money has grown into the sixth-largest bank in the UK, offering a full range of retail and commercial banking services.
Dane
- 90+ branches in Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, and all major cities.
- 850+ access points.
- 100,000+ access events daily.
Before turning to Salto, Virgin Money faced several security challenges, all revolving around the need for a more scalable, streamlined access management solution with remote capabilities.
The previous system was primarily based on iButton keys and manual combination door locks. This made keyholding inefficient, difficult to manage, and prone to failure.
At the same time, the Virgin Money security team struggled with third-party keyholding companies: incorrect or missing keys often delayed branch access across the network, leading to inconvenience, wasted time for customers and staff, and costly repairs.
Furthermore, the manual process of reprogramming so many iButton keys added considerable expense and operational strain. It also increased the risk of lost or stolen fobs, compromising security in each branch.
The size of the undertaking made the challenge even more complex. Virgin Money operates approximately 850 access points in at least 91 branches countrywide. And with almost 100,000 daily access events recorded across those facilities, Virgin Money required a solution that put security, flexibility, and reliability top of mind.
To address these network-wide challenges, Salto KS stood out as the ideal solution. This cloud-based access control system offers scalability and extensive functionality, enabling convenient, secure smart access across the entire Virgin Money network. During installation, Salto collaborated with locksmithing and ATM security experts Loktec, who began working with Virgin Money in 2002 and have been deploying Salto access control solutions since 2014.
The Salto KS platform is built for complete, real-time access control, enabling event tracking, door unlocking, and custom user credentials on the go. With best-in-class remote access and management capabilities, this solution gives Virgin Money’s security team total oversight over all branches, from anywhere, at any time, while supporting system updates without requiring physical intervention.
Salto KS also enables rapid response to security needs or incidents, such as lost or stolen fobs. Once a user reports a missing key fob, it can be instantly deactivated, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
Meanwhile, it enhances the user experience for key staff members, from bank tellers to area managers. With Salto KS, users can now enjoy fast, secure access to doors via their mobile devices – no longer need to carry fobs or remember multiple codes. By delivering keyless access, Salto KS enhances user convenience while boosting overall security.
Additionally, Virgin Money can enjoy considerable cost savings. The smart, battery-powered handleset, enabled by Salto KS, eliminates the need for extensive wiring or electrical work, significantly reducing installation costs.
Virgin Money’s decision to implement Salto KS represents a forward-thinking approach to security and operational management. The solution not only enhanced the bank’s ability to manage security remotely but has also improved staff safety and reduced overall call-out costs.
In fact, Virgin Money has already expanded its use of Salto’s smart access technologies across its broader estate. With its scalable, secure, and smart access wireless technology, Salto KS has proven to be an invaluable asset to Virgin Money. The solution has become integral to meeting Virgin Money’s business and operational goals of improving safety, reducing costs, and streamlining operations across its branch network.
